Student Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

Job Brief: 

Student BCBAs are those on the path from BHT-ABA to BCBA with Morris Behavior Coaching! They work as one (or more) of 3 individualized roles over 1 to 2 years while practicing skills to use in their future career as a BCBA. MBC provides all Student BCBAs with their entire 1,500 – 2,000 hours of supervised fieldwork during their employment.

Student BCBAs work directly with our clients as well as in a supervisory capacity, and design and provide medically-necessary behavioral intervention. Our Student BCBAs work under the supervision of the clinical director while accruing their supervised fieldwork hours for the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. Our Student BCBAs work in homes, schools, in the greater community, and from home and maintain records of their client’s treatment and progress. They also attend fieldwork meetings and conduct out-of-session assignments as part of their position responsibilities and unrestricted fieldwork hours.

Responsibilities:

  • All duties performed under the direct supervision of the clinical director
  • Maintain client confidentiality and dignity at all times
  • Direct-service ABA treatment with clients
  • Measurement of client skills, including data collection, recording, graphing, and descriptions of behavior
  • Effective implementation of experimental designs
  • Effective applications of behavior-analytic skills, including assessment, behavior-change procedures, selecting and implementing interventions, and the supervision of BHTs
  • Documentation and reporting of all client activities as per payor and MBC guidelines, including effective written communication, seeking clinical direction, and session notes
  • Professional conduct as per the BCBA ethics code
  • Participation in MBC ongoing training and professional development
  • Additional responsibilities, including mentorship, training, modeling, etc. to be used in the growth and development of BHT-ABA Interns, Is, IIs, and IIIs, and/or other duties assigned by supervisors
  • Administrative work, like scheduling, phone calls/text messages, and session preparation
  • Travel/drive time between clients
  • Additional duties as part of fieldwork supervision, including meetings and unrestricted BCBA-level tasks

Requirements: 

BCBA Interns must obtain/maintain the following, at a minimum:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Work a minimum of 80 billable hours monthly
  • Have an active driver’s license
  • Have a personal vehicle or other reliable means of transportation
  • 3 months of ABA experience
  • Have worked a minimum of 90 days in any position at MBC
  • Bachelor’s degree in ABA, psychology, education, or related field
  • Enrollment in and at least 1 day of approved masters-level course sequence (Student BCBA Is)
  • Approved Masters degree (Student BCBA IIs and IIIs)
  • RBT Certification (Student BCBA Is)
  • PA LBS Certification (Student BCBA IIs and IIIs)
  • State and local clearances, as assigned

Note: Clearances must be less than 12 months old as of start date.

Student BCBAs must pass initial and ongoing competency assessments.

At MBC, we work with young children with autism and related diagnoses. This is an active role (as opposed to a desk job) where we are playing with and teaching young children. This position may require the physical ability to:

  1. Sit or stand for 1-2 hours at a time (with short breaks)
  2. Sit on child-sized chairs, sit on the floor, ride school buses, etc.
  3. Lift up to 40 pounds
  4. Climb stairs and/or playground equipment
  5. Get on and off the floor from a seated position
  6. Bend, squat, lean over, or otherwise perform atypical movements

Skill Development

Student BCBAs must have worked with Morris Behavior Coaching for at least 90 days prior to starting as a Student BCBA, no matter at what level. Student BCBAs follow a planned fieldwork program that takes place over 12-24 months (usually, the first half as a Student BCBA I and the second half split between a Student BCBA II and III) which results in application of all skills listed on the BCBA Test Content Outline, 6th Edition, and 1,500 hours (concentrated) or 2,000 hours (standard) of supervised fieldwork.

Student BCBAs have the opportunity to develop skills during their employment period while accruing their fieldwork hours. They will engage in individual and group (if available) supervision for the BACB, create and maintain a documentation system, and receive hands-on training and mentorship from the clinical director designed to jump-start their future career as a BCBA.

Successful completion of the Student BCBA program at MBC is a guarantee of fieldwork supervision completion, but is not a guarantee of future employment as a BC-ABA nor a BCBA. Student BCBAs may only hold Student BCBA positions for a maximum of 30 months (2.5 years total).

Pay Range: 

Hourly rates from $20-34

Full time salaries from $42,000+ (Student BCBAs IIs and IIIs only)
